Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police have warned motorists against distracted
driving and stopping in the middle of the road after releasing a video showing
a traffic incident that resulted in a series of crashes.
The video, released by Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters in
cooperation with the Monitoring and Control Centre, showed how a vehicle
stopping on the road, combined with a lack of attention from approaching
drivers, led to successive collisions.
The Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police
stressed that distracted driving and stopping in the middle of the road during
an emergency pose a serious danger to road users.
Police urged motorists facing an emergency to continue driving, whenever
possible, until they reach the nearest exit or another safe location, to
protect themselves and other road users.
What should you do if your vehicle cannot be moved?
If a vehicle cannot be moved, motorists should immediately contact the
Command and Control Centre on 999 to request assistance, Abu Dhabi Police said.
This allows authorities to respond quickly to the situation, reducing
the risk of serious accidents while helping maintain the smooth flow of
traffic.
Abu Dhabi Police also called on drivers to remain fully focused behind
the wheel, avoid distractions and be prepared to respond to unexpected
situations on the road.
The authority stressed that remaining alert can help motorists
anticipate road hazards and make the appropriate decision at the right time.
